Heritage and Problem Identification Walk around Old Town
|

Clean-up drive of Old Town After the Heritage and Problem Identification Walk a clean-up drive took place under the aegis of LAHDC, Leh in which old town residents and other stakeholders including concerned govt. departments, religious organisations, NGOs working or based in Old Leh Town walked around Old Town to see places and problems while volunteering to pick up garbage and cleaning drains. CEC Sri Rigzin Spalbar briefed the gathered people before leading them into the labyrinths of Old Town starting from the stairs going up the Leh Palace beside Munshi House. The CEC spoke about how this clean up drive could be made into a solid step towards making Old Town clean by the cooperation, hard work and environmentally conscious attitude of the residents of Old Town. Tenants, non tenants and those who own houses in the area but live elsewhere are all responsible in making Old Town a place which truly exemplifies Ladakh. The Government Departments cannot do the cleaning up alone and need the help and cooperation of the resident regularly to make things work. A change in attitude towards the environment is needed desperately, CEC said. New names to the existing list of representatives were also added. On the occasion it was also decided to make a list of all houses in Old Town without toilets and notices should be sent to them to build a local toilet for their houses or buildings. |
