Mapping the Culture and Heritage of Nubra
July 2022 – June 2024
Completed
In Collaboration with the Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation (HCHF), LAMO worked on a project to document, research and disseminate the cultural practises and historical sites along Nubra Valley’s silk route, with a view to protecting and revitalising them, and propose measures for more sustainable tourism in Nubra, engaging with stakeholders and youth through capacity building, enhancing livelihood opportunities, conserving the environment and heritage of the region. The project location stretches from Sumoor and moves up towards the Siachen Glacier, via Tegar, Trisha, Panamik, Murgi, Charasa, Ayee and Yarma.
At the end of the project, LAMO and HCHF brought out an Inventory Catalogue, four Walk Booklets and signage for all the villages covered in the Walks
The Walk Booklets can be downloaded at https://www.lamo.org.in/ladakh-walks
The project is supported by Royal Enfield.
