Mapping the Culture and Heritage of Changthang

The focus of the project is to document, research and disseminate the cultural practises and historical sites in Changthang with a view to protecting and revitalising them, and propose measures for more sustainable tourism in the region, engaging with stakeholders and youth
through capacity building, enhancing livelihood opportunities, conserving the environment, documenting the tangible and intangible heritage of the region. The project location includes Chumathang in Rong-Churgyut Block and Hanle in Nyoma Block in the first phase, Korzok and Rupshu in Rupsho Block in the second. This includes the two cological wetland Ramsar sites in Ladakh – one around the Tsomoriri lake in Korzok and the other at Tsokar lake in Rupshu.
At the end of the project, LAMO will bring out an Inventory Catalogue, Walk Booklets and signage for all the areas covered in the Walks.
